2nd Generation Glock 17: questions

1) Will modern 17 and 33 round magazines work with this older (second generation) G17?

2) How to tell if the 1992 six-part "upgrade" has been performed on a 2nd generation G17, as described by this (somewhat caustic) article. You have been warned, it is not positive about the way these "upgrades" were handled as a non-recall:
http://www.thegunzone.com/glock/upgrade-faq.html

Still the article has some technical info, that I did not have before I read it.

3) Wide open: anything to be aware of regarding a 2nd generation G17? This one is a fairly early model. I've heard whispers of the rail length being insufficient (shall we say). Anything of note worth being aware of -- this type information would be welcomed.

Thx all,
gpond :rose:

Re: 2nd Generation Glock 17: questions

I am not sure if yours has the trigger upgrade without actually looking it over. Any armorer should check it for you, free of charge. Maybe the person/store you bought it from can tell you.

No real issues with the 2nd Generation 17s or 19s in my book. In fact, many prefer the 2nd gen series because they don't happen to like the finger grooves that come on the newer ones. Also the 2nd gen slide breech face doesn't have the newer 15 degree angle cut to facilitate brass ejection, but I believe Glock will cut it for free, if you want.

Yes, any 17rd and 33rd mags will work fine.

I own a 2nd gen. G19 and it seems to accept all magazines of various production years including recently produced 33rd mags. I have always heard that if you want to find out about a recall or any known issues with your specific model, to call Glock and give them your serial number.

Thanks Smaug. I failed to mention that anytime you have a question about Glock upgrades, rebuilds, repair, refinishing, or any other question regarding your pistol, give them a call.

And if you are in the market for 33 round mags, check out www.botachtactical.com. Use the promo code march2009 and get 10% off the regular price of $35 for the factory glock 33 rounders. Not a bad deal at all, if you feel comfortable using Botach, as they don't have the best reputation out there. In fact, there reputation really stinks, but I still ordered 4 of the 33 rounders today for my new Glock 19 that I just picked up.

BTW, buy the 17 with confidence, there isn't that much that needs to be done to keep them shooting great.

Bunch of Israeli crooks:

The younger Diverolis munitions experience appeared to be limited to a short-lived job in Los Angeles for Botach Tactical, a military and police supply company owned by his uncle, Bar-Kochba Botach.

Mr. Diveroli cut off an interview when asked about Botach Tactical. Mr. Botach, reached by telephone, said that both Michael and Efraim Diveroli had briefly worked for him, but that after seeing the rush of federal contracts available after the wars began, they had struck out on their own.
